Non/fiction Spring

The Moscow Kremlin Museums will present the publications at the International Book Fair for High-Quality Fiction and Non-Fiction “Non/fiction”, which will take place in the Gostiniy Dvor from 10 to 13 April 2025.

The catalogue for the current exhibition “Fine Dining: Stories of Food in Ancient China” and the book “Emperor Nicholas I. The Knight on the Throne” from the series “Russian Sovereigns” are among the novelties shown at the fair. These publications entered the top list of “Non/fiction”.

The catalogue introduces the reader to the history of Chinese culinary tradition that dates back several thousand years. 145 exhibits from the collection of the National Museum of China - the art pieces of different epochs: from the Neolithic Age to modern times - tell about the history of the great nation, its life and philosophical ideas reflected in the table culture. The edition comprises five thematic sections: 'Food from the Eight Corners of the World', 'The Bouquet of Wine and the Scent of Tea', 'Evolution of Kitchenware', 'Precious Tableware', and 'The Ritual Starts with a Meal' that represent ancient archaeological objects made of bronze and ceramics, delicate items made of porcelain, gold, silver, jade and agate as well as national costumes and painted scrolls.

The book “Emperor Nicholas I. The Knight on the Throne” from the series “Russian Sovereigns” tells about the monarch whom contemporaries often compared with Don Quixote thanks to his knighthood: honesty, sincere devotion to his duty and convictions. Nicholas Pavlovich ruled for 30 years, and his epoch became the time of a true renaissance of Russian art and culture, fascination with Romanticism and interest in the national roots. At the same time, he faced a lot of hardship: from the Deсembrist uprising to the cholera epidemic and the Crimean War. The publication quotes memoirs of many contemporaries of these events and people who knew the emperor personally, thus allowing a holistic and vivid impression of the epoch. The book is richly illustrated with art pieces and original historical monuments, from painted portraits, prints and watercolours to the splendid samples of weapons, orders and memorial medals, documents, items of ceremonial costume and uniform.

The fair will also expose the materials from the former popular exhibitions. The guests will have an oppportunity to purchase the exhibition catalogues “The Legacy of Peter the Great and Coups D’Etat in the Russian Empire”, “The Duel: from Trial by Combat to a Noble Crime”, “Decline of the Dynasty: the Last Rurikids and the False Dmitry” and other, as well as popular books for family audience from the series “Life of the Sovereign’s Court”, and the publication devoted to the coming Easter from the series “The History of an Old Feast”.

Scientific research, monographs, guidebooks and albums of the Moscow Kremlin Museums, as well as souvenirs and stationery, will be available on the stand В-32.
