On 2 April 2025, the press conference of General Director of the Moscow Kremlin Museums Elena Gagarina took place in the BRICS+ International Media Centre. The event was devoted to the exhibition “Fine Dining: Stories of Food in Ancient China” that opens on 11 April 2025.

During the conference with Russian and Chinese media, Elena Gagarina told about the preparation of the project, peculiarities of exposition and negotiations thanks to which it became possible to strengthen the initial content of the exhibition.

“We devoted this exchange project to one of the most important aspects of human culture as gastronomic traditions through which the culture of any country can be experienced. It is worth noting that the exhibition is part of the official events programme for the Russian-Chinese Intercultural Year 2024-2025, announced by the governments of both countries.

China as well as Russia is a very large country that unites people of many nationalities. This make Chinese cuisine exceptional. Among many ceremonies that regulated the life of a ruler and his subjects, the central place was held by rituals referring to food and everything to do with it.

The exhibition will present the objects from the earliest, most valued in Chinese culture items in traditional forms of the Neolithic Age to original everyday and ceremonial dishware. Our visitors will also see painting scrolls, costumes, musical instruments, and sets for table games, which were an integral part of any feast.” noted Elena Gagarina.
