From the 4th till the 7th of June, the 11th Book Fair “Red Square” will be held in Moscow. Stand № 6 of the Moscow Kremlin Museums is open on the Museum line in the GUM Department Store. The visitors can buy exhibition catalogues, guides, books for family reading and various museum souvenirs.
The catalogue for the current exhibition “Fine Dining: Stories of Food in Ancient China” and the book “Emperor Nicholas I. The Knight on the Throne” from the series “Russian Sovereigns” are among the novelties shown on the fair.
The catalogue introduces to the reader the history of Chinese culinary tradition that dates back several thousand years. 145 exhibits from the collection of the National Museum of China - the art pieces of different epochs tell about the history of the great nation, its life and philosophical ideas reflected in the table culture.
The book “Emperor Nicholas I. The Knight on the Throne” from the series “Russian Sovereigns” tells about the monarch who ruled for 30 years and overcame a lot of hardship.
His epoch became not only the time of a true renaissance of Russian art and culture but also the time of political tempests. The book is richly illustrated with art pieces and original historical monuments, from painted portraits, prints and watercolours to the wonderful samples of weapons, orders and memorial medals, documents, items of ceremonial costume and uniforms. The publication quotes memoirs of many contemporaries of these events and persons who knew Emperor Nicholas I in private.
Staff members of the Moscow Kremlin Museums have also prepared special events for the guests of the festival.
On 4 June at 19:00, the presentation of the interactive program “Sovereign—the Defender of the Russian Land” for children aged 9–13 will be held at the space “Children’s Workshop” (Red Square).
Referring to the monuments from the collection of the Moscow Kremlin Museums as examples, the guests will learn about the tsar's military ceremony. They will answer quiz questions and find out how the ruler played the role of principal protector of the fatherland, and how the sovereign’s military campaign was sanctified in the tsar residence—the Kremlin. At the end of the lesson, the young audience will piece together an unusual puzzle with an image of a saint.
Sophiya Bebing and Natalya Grigorieva, methodologists of the Department of Pre-school and School Educational Programmes, will lead the event.
On 7 June at 15:00, the presentation of the catalogue “Fine Dining: Stories of Food in Ancient China”and the special programme of the Children’s Centre devoted to this exhibition will be held at the venue “Reading Space, Territory of Future” (Red Square). Yuliya Uvarova, methodologist, historian and author of scientific and popular science articles, will lead the event.
Further, the interactive programme for children above 6 “Ancient Legends of the Middle Kingdom” devoted to the legends of Ancient China about the creation of the world and the first people. The participants will learn about the characters of the Chinese calendar, about Jade Dragon and Golden Phoenix. At the end of the event, the young audience will play traditional Chinese games.
