On 18 April 2024, we faced bitter grief – Tatiana Sergeevna Borisova, one of the oldest and most talented scientific researchers of the Moscow Kremlin Museums,  left this world.

Татьяна Сергеевна Борисова

Tatiana Sergeevna devoted 48 years of her life to work in the Kremlin Museums. After graduating from the philological faculty of the Lomonosov State University of Moscow in 1975, she came to the Museum and rose through the ranks from the curator’s assistant to the curator of the icon collection of the Grand Kremlin Palace’s temples.

Thanks to her historical and philological education, the range of Tatiana’s scientific interests was immensely varied: from studying icons to the codicology research of the Gospel texts.

Catalogues of the main collection of the museum by T.V. Borisova, such as “Icons of the Church of the Glorious Resurrection in the Grand Kremlin Palace”, “Icons from the Verkhospassky Cathedral of the Grand Kremlin Palace”, “Manuscript and Printed Gospels of the 13th-early 20th Century in the Collection of the Moscow Kremlin Museums: 3rd Vol.” are the fundamental scientific researches in the fields of art history and palaeography, while her article, devoted to the dating of the oldest inventory of the Assumption Cathedral became the principle document for all researchers of the Moscow Kremlin Museums collection and gained high estimate of leading national historians.

Commitment and passion to her work were the base of pure authority that Tatiana Sergeevna enjoyed with specialists in art history. Her departure marked the end of the epoch in the history of national museology.

The memory of this wonderful person is enshrined in our hearts. This is truly a grievous loss.
