Anteroom of the Armoury Chamber

Organized by:
The Moscow Kremlin Museums

The exhibition is dedicated to the 100th Jubilee of the world-famous weapons designer – Mikhail Timofeyevich Kalashnikov (10.11.1919 - 23.12.2013). The displayed items trace the creative development of the eminent engineer. M.T. Kalashnikov was a Great Patriotic War veteran; it was right in the war field when his inventive talent was revealed for the first time. A unique assault rifle AK47 was made at the end of the war; on the strength of battle characteristics, reliability under harsh conditions and ease of making, it is undoubtedly the best in the world.

M.T. Kalashnikov has made a weighty contribution to national defence capability. Among numerous ranks, orders and medals, the weapons designer was awarded two Stars of the "Hero of Socialist Labour" and the Order of St Andrew the First-Called, which are the evidence of the constructor’s success in making weapons for the defence of the Homeland both in the Soviet epoch and in modern Russia.

It's for the first time when the samples of arms designed by M.T. Kalashnikov and made at various factories in Russia are presented to a wide audience. Three automatic rifles, including the legendary AK47, as well as two machineguns, belong to the collection of firearms which was transferred to the Moscow Kremlin Museums in 2005 during the Anniversary celebration of ‘Rosoboronexport’ with the direct participation of the engineer. Each sample bears an engraved dedicatory inscription and the image of M.T. Kalashnikov’s personal signature. His signature in the gilding technique also adorns the blade of the ceremonial dirk, which was personally donated to the museum by the eminent designer in 2005.
