Located in the very centre of Moscow, the Moscow Kremlin has always shared the bright and dark periods of the Homeland's history, overcoming difficulties and hardships, reviving and rebuilding after enemy invasions and devastation. Its fate reflected all the events in the country, i.e. wars, disturbances, changes of monarchs and ruling governments, economic and political reforms, changes of mood and so on. Being part of the Kremlin, the very heart of the country, the Armoury Chamber experienced all these trials along with it. Whatever the situation in the state, the head of any institution plays an important role in the history of the organization, having the task of dealing with administrative and practical issues, as well as managing the staff under him. This chapter is dedicated to the directors and custodians of the Armoury Chamber in the 19th century and the heads of the Moscow Kremlin Museums in the 20th and early 21st centuries.
