ANDREEV ANATOLY MIKHAILOVICH (1913–1983)
1956-1960 – Head of the Department for the Preservation of Historical Values and Monuments of the Moscow Kremlin, within the Commandant's Office of the Moscow Kremlin
A candidate of historical sciences, political worker, and author of popular science publications on the Armoury Chamber. Head of the Department for the Preservation of Historical Values and Monuments of the Moscow Kremlin (1956-1960).
After graduating from the Moscow Institute of History and Philosophy, he began his career in his native Ivanovo region as a school teacher, later being appointed as the school principal. In 1940, he was seconded for further study at the Higher Party School, after which he worked in the Propaganda and Agitation Department of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks), rising from instructor to head of a sector.
He was appointed head of the Department for the Preservation of Historical Values and Monuments of the Moscow Kremlin in March 1956. In light of the changing circumstances in the country following the death of Joseph Stalin, and particularly with the opening of the Kremlin for public visits in 1955, the museum's main focus became the promotion of cultural and historical heritage artefacts. During the four years that Andreev led the institution, a new group of guides was trained, a significant number of popular science publications, brochures, leaflets, guidebooks, and postcard sets were published, and a comprehensive system for the professional development of research staff was established.
In 1960, following the transfer of the museums to the Ministry of Culture of the USSR, he moved to the position of senior researcher at the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, where he continued his study of the history of the working class and defended his doctoral dissertation.
